Masks Off for the WSOP
The top story of the past week happened just after last week’s newsletter deadline when the World Series of Poker announced that players may take off their mask, face covering, shield, or Darth Vader helmet when seated at the poker table. Players will still need to have a mask with them as it must be worn while moving tables or any other times they’re not at the table. Executive Director of the WSOP Ty Stewart elaborated further on the optional mask option for players with PocketFives later that afternoon. In the interview with Jeff Walsh, Stewart noted that dealers, whether they have been vaccinated or not, will be wearing a mask at all times.
PokerGO Announces WSOP Streaming Schedule
Plenty of live final table streams coming up for the 2021 World Series of Poker as PokerGO plans to stream 25 events exclusively on the service. Several of these final tables will appear in edited form on CBS Sports in the coming months. The current schedule will show the $10,000 Main Event from start to finish, except for Day 1B as the $50,000 Poker Players Championship final table takes precedence.
Negreanu Wins Another Poker Tournament after 61-Day Drought
The Poker Masters high roller series is well underway from the PokerGO Studio in Vegas, final table streams daily through September 19 on PokerGO. Daniel Negreanu decided he didn’t want to undergo another multi-year streak between tournament wins, defeating a field of 66 entries in Event 5: $10,000 NL Hold’em tournament for $178,200 on Sunday.
Doyle Brunson Documentary Announced
A documentary based on the life of Doyle Brunson is now in production from the team behind the critically-acclaimed documentary The Last Dance’. Brunson broke the news himself on Twitter Wednesday to the delight of the poker community.
Aleksei Vandyshev Wins WSOP GGPoker Main Event
The World Series of Poker Online wrapped up over the weekend, highlighted by the $5,000 Main Event Online Championship, won by Russia’s Aleksei Vandyshev for over $2,500,000. Recaps of all 33 Online bracelet events are available at PokerNews.
PokerStars WCOOP Wrapping Up
The PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker $5,200 Main Event final table takes place Wednesday afternoon. The winner collects just under $1,500,000 and you can watch the commentary on PokerStars Youtube or Twitch channels.
World Poker Tour World Online Championship Reaches Final Table
The $5,300 World Poker Tour World Online Championship Main Event final table is now streaming at partypoker's Twitch channel if you happen to open this letter Tuesday afternoon as Vlad Darie leads the nine remaining players. David Peters, Talal Shakerchi, and partypoker Ambassador Joao Simao are also contending to get their name on the Mike Sexton Cup along with over $959,000.
partypoker NJ hosts WPT Borgata Online Poker Open
If you’re in New Jersey, or close enough to get into New Jersey and sensing some FOMO about winning a WPT yourself, the $3,500 Borgata Online Poker Open starts September 19 with a $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool available. Satellites are running now across the partypoker NJ network.
United States Poker Championship in San Diego
If you watched enough televised tournament poker, you may remember the United States Poker Championship when it aired on ESPN in the 2000s’ from the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. The Trump Taj no longer exists, but the USPC is BACK as part of the Mid-States Poker Tour at San Diego’s Sycuan Resort, running from September 16-26, featuring a $1,110 Main Event with the guaranteed prize pool at $300,000. Live Poker is BACK in Ireland
In Ireland, the government has scheduled October 22 for the end of their remaining COVID-19 restrictions. On that same day is the scheduled live start of the Unibet International Poker Open series at the Bonnington Hotel in Dublin. IPO organizer/tournament director Nick O’Hara discusses plans for the IPO and other hot news in poker on The Lock-In with David Lappin and Dara O’Kearney.
Rave Reviews for Movie with Poker
The opening weekend of ‘The Card Counter’, featuring Joe Stapleton as their poker consultant drew just over $1,000,000 on less than 600 screens, good for 8th place. So far on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an 85% rating among critics, but the audience score is currently at only 44%.

The iconic (to poker fans) Dogs Playing Poker painting has found its way into the collection of the men’s wardrobe brand Loewe with an anorak and shorts with a four-figure price tag. For a shade under $500, you can pick up the shirt to wear to your next formal function.
